The sculptress
After studying under the renowned professors and sculptors, Johann Michael Bossard (from 1930 to 1933) and Edwin Scharff (from 1945 to 1949) in Hamburg, Maria Krull went onto pursue a distinguished artistic career as a sculptress.
Blessed with a rich creative impulse, Maria Krull’s prolific and varied output reflects not only an artistic foundation that endowed her with confidence and ease, but also an individual balance of form that makes each sculpture captivating. Rooted in classical canons, her sculptural works evoke the timeless serenity of form and anatomical precision of the great masters. Yet, it was her very personal artistic temperament that imbued her creations with an emotional intensity that sets them apart. This is particularly evident in Maria Krull’s female figures, which were rendered with a highly personal technique. During her extended stay in Italy, her art developed into an even more vibrant language of poetic sensitivity and a deeper sense of completeness and fidelity to the subject.
Her talent earned her multiple successes and recognitions, including the gold medal at the prestigious Contemporary Art Exhibition of Santa Severa. (Premio Pyrgi 1966).
